Before there was Returnal, there was the persistence. Being on PlayStation VR During the release, Firesprites Roguelite-Sci-Fi survival horror never received the attention he deserved, but it was a well-executed mix of genres. On board an abandoned space colonieschiff, which is overrun by a mutated crew, they will be revived by the KI of the system as a series of "printed" bodies, with the ultimate goal of restoring the spaceship systems and preventing it from A deadly black hole.

The narrative is largely serving as a justification for the gameplay loop, in which they often die and gradually improve their arsenal and skills. Stem cells can violently extracted from enemies and are output for permanent free circuits, making them more capable of progress in the fight and in the ware. The gameplay is actually extremely well designed: If you are discovered, you can use a shield to ward off enemy attacks and create an opening for the attack.

Levels are predominantly randomly generated, although set-piece final meetings on each deck enable the developer to create prefabricated Jump Scares and Set Piece Moments. The feeling of progress is consistent, and only a few runs will feel like pure waste of time; As with the best roguelites of the genres, it always feels like you would go forward, even if you do not necessarily scorchy.

In addition, Firesprite demonstrates excellent mastery of the PS5 hardware - allegedly works on a high-profile PSVR2 title, so no surprise - with stunning raytracing mode, which transforms the entire spaceship practically into a mirror. Personally, we preferred to play with 60 frames per second with deactivated raytracing - the reflections of the screen room are still very good - but it is a great demonstration of what the technology is capable of.

Our only criticism is that the gameplay has not perfectly made the transition to the pancake game; Considering objects made sense on PSVR, but is strange in a traditional medium. However, you get used to it quickly and from then you hook the rewarding loop.

  • Funny spin to the Roguelite genre
  • Reward feeling of progress
  • Stunning raytracing
  • Attractive haptic feedback

  • Can repeat

  • Some systems feel strange outside of VR

Good 7/10
